What’s The #1 Supplement For A Healthy Mind & Body?

If I could only afford to buy one supplement, it would be some form of Omega 3.

The health benefits of Omega 3 are virtually endless. And since most of us have a difficult time getting sufficient Omega 3, supplementing is an excellent idea.

I can’t remember who said this – it was a doctor or nutritionist – but their quote was “Omega 3 is used by every cell in your body.”

Omega 3 is also brain fuel. Eight percent of your brain is comprised of EPA/DHA, so it’s important to consume sufficient quantities for optimal alertness, energy levels, and concentration.

Omega 3 also has strong anti-inflammatory effects, is great for cardiovascular health, and also helps in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.

Whole foods rich in Omega 3 are flax seed, fatty fish – like salmon – and walnuts. [A sad problem with salmon is a lot of it is contaminated with mercury and other toxins.] If you don’t get a lot of these whole foods in your daily diet, then consider fish oil and / or flax seed.

Most people should aim for a minimum of 1 gram of EPA/DHA – taken three times a day with food. When buying omega-3 fish oil supplements, look for a high EPA/DHA level on the container (50% + at a minimum).

Athletes and those looking to add muscle should consume a minimum of 10 grams a day. [Since that would mean a lot of fish oil tablets, I mostly use ground flax [look for cold milled] which I mix into my daily whey protein shake, my nightly casein protein shake, and sometimes into my pre / post workout drinks [creatine, taurine, arginine, and branch chain aminos.]
