The very first thing I want to do is clear up some misconceptions about beginning an exercise routine:
One, you don’t have to buy anything to start a fitness program.
Second, you don’t have to spend hours in the gym working out to get in good shape. [I work out 20 to 30 minutes a day.]
Third, weight lifting, or any type of resistance training will not give women big muscles.
Forth, you don’t have to join a gym so someone can help you design a beginning workout routine. You can get in great physical shape working out at home.
Have I taken away all the excuses for a health new lifestyle? You see, fitness and exercise is not in what you buy. You don’t really need a new set of weights, or a new elliptical or treadmill to get in, or back in shape.
You just need to make some basic physical activities a habit.
Running, walking, jogging, swimming- it doesn’t matter what you do.
All that matters is that you do something. Ideally you want a total body workout. You want to do some cardio exercise and some strength training exercise. Your body doesn’t know [or care] if you’re lifting gold plated dumb bells- or a rock.
Physical fitness that will change your life is nothing more than beginning some type of routine. It’s the routine of exercising on a regular basis that matters much more than what makes up that routine.
A common mistake is buying the equipment first. That shiny Bowflex or Nautilus machine isn’t going to make you workout. Your mind is going to make you workout.
Just get started doing something. Even if it’s just walking. Later you can work up running if you think you’ll enjoy it. You can do any type of body weight exercise right at home. You can work your chest muscles with push ups, your core muscles with ab exercises. Go online, you will find a body weight exercise for all your muscles. Later you can work up to more advanced strength training and aerobic routines.
Fitness information is not your problem. Making the mental shift so your precious health is a priority is the problem. I don’t have to tell you the countless benefits of physical exercise. You know a lean and toned body will look better and feel better.
Get get started with the basic healthy activity. You have your entire life to refine your training program. And don’t listen to know it all’s or self appointed experts. I can guarantee you, no matter what type of program you do, someone is going to tell you that it’s all wrong.
Ignore that idiot.
Your muscles and cardiovascular system were designed to be used- daily. Just start with something that you like. Sure, warm up and do a little stretching first. Talk to your doctor if you’re over 40 or have a medical condition. Good health is in your little daily habits. Not in what you buy and not in what specific aerobic or strength training regime you do.
The expensive weight lifting or fancy jogging outfit can wait. You can and will learn as you go. There is no such thing as bad exercise. Done right and in moderation, it’s all exercise is good.
