How To Never Store Carbs As Fat


I’m having difficulty keeping up with the “How do I use cards to my advantage?” questions – so I’m going to address that in more detail today.

Remember, no other macro-nutrient can have such a positive- and negative – effect on your life and health as carbs. 

So even if it’s a little hassle, it pays to know how to use carbs to help instead of hurt you.

Here’s a general guide to using carbs wisely:

A good time of day to eat carbs is after you wake up. Your metabolism is running faster and after going without food all night there’s more “room” in your blood, muscles, and liver to store the carb sugars without fat storage.

A better time to consume non fibrous carbs is 3 to 4 hours before you exercise. This way the carbs are burned off during and after the workout.

They also provide increased energy for a better workout. And the better the workout, the more fat and calories burned.

The best time to consume carbs is post-workout. When you do muscle stimulating exercise [like weight lifting] your muscles use up their glycogen stores, so carbs are sent to the muscles, instead of to fat storage.

The worst time to consume carbs is right before you plan on being inactive or go to bed. Having no need to send them to your muscles or use them for energy – your body has no choice but to store them as fat.

[As a matter of fact, that's exactly how they fatten up Sumo wrestlers. They have them eat a huge carb meal right before bed. I jokingly tell my coaching clients, if you don't want to look like a Sumo wrestler, don't eat like one :]

So you see, with a little thought you can use carbs to help preserve muscle tissue and provide energy, while at the same time limiting their fat storing potential.
